Allied Firebombing of Dresden

Images shown as thumbnails.

dresden1.jpg dresden2.jpg August Kuklane, a high-ranking officer in the Waffen SS, supervised the collection and mass cremation of corpses in Dresden after the Allied firebombings. In the left image, Kuklane could be in the photo, as he himself said. Kuklane did not see a single person in German military uniform. The allied fighter jets even attacked fleeing civilians, Dresden rescue workers and corpse removal teams. August Kuklane estimated the number of people killed in Dresden at 600,000. The bodies were cremated on massive pyres in Dresden’s Altmarkt and the city center.
